Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and mention all four countries, and your overview correctly highlights Malaysia’s strong rise and Indonesia’s substantial growth. However, the response only partially reports the main features: it gives a few start and end figures but does not describe important changes across the period, such as Indonesia overtaking the Philippines by 2010 or Malaysia becoming the highest series. Some figures are inaccurate: Malaysia is about 30% in 1970 and 84% in 2040, while Indonesia is about 14% and 64%, not 10% and 60%; Thailand reaches about 50%, rather than 45%. The claim that these countries are developing is not shown by the graph. At 145 words, the response is five words below the required minimum.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to country details. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “Moreover” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph lists the Philippines and Thailand without a clear comparison or a consistent time-based sequence, and the overview repeats details rather than summarising the main pattern across all four countries. Some connections are unclear, particularly “which is average growth,” whose reference is uncertain. The final comment about living standards also interrupts the chart description. Organise the body around clear comparisons and use linking words only where the relationship between ideas is explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “prediction,” “increase,” and “rapid increase,” so the reader can generally identify the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “had 30% population,” “which is grown 55%,” and “major rapid increase in population.” Repeated use of “population” and “increase” also makes the description less precise. There are noticeable spelling errors in “countires,” “citites,” and “Philippiness,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation of country names. Use standard forms such as “urban population,” “rose to,” and “was projected to reach,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “which is prediction increase 80% in 2040” and “On the other hand…,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction occur throughout: “which is grown 55%” needs a past-tense form, while “it prediction increase” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase. Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “had 30% population” and the fragment beginning “which is average growth.” Commas are frequently separated from the preceding word, and full stops do not consistently mark complete sentences. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and projected future forms, then proofread each sentence for a complete subject and verb.
