IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The given line graph illustrates the proportion of population living in given Asian countries from 1970 to 2020, and also gives prediction for 2030 and 2040. Overall, Malaysia shows the highest proportion of people lives in cities through out the period, Conversely, Thailand shows lowest percentage at the end of time period.

In 1970, people who lived in Malaysian cities were around 30% which was second highest rate among other countries, Conversely, nearly 10% of people lived in Indonesian cities which was lowest among the all. Both countries, Malaysia and Indonesia shows similar trend through out the period, both was shown steady upward trend in the percentage of people lives in cities which ends for nearly 80% and 60%, respectively. However, prediction shows the highest rate for Malaysia and the lowest for Thailand.

In other two countries, there were major fluctuation. Philippines started at the highest rate among other at more than 30%, while it ends at around 50% which was at third place in given countries. However, Thailand started at less than 20% and it will be ended at lowest among the all at around 40%.
