Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all four countries and the time frame provided. However, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the overall upward trajectory across all nations. While the main features are identified, the reporting of data is sometimes inaccurate or confusing (e.g., stating Malaysia 'will rose' or describing the Philippines' growth as 'steady' when the data shows fluctuations). To improve, ensure that the overview highlights the most striking differences or similarities rather than just stating that numbers are 'different'. The data selection is sufficient, but the analysis needs more precision to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'At the outset' is used incorrectly to introduce a body paragraph, and 'and last' is an informal way to transition to the final point. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'multi-liner graph', 'predication' (instead of prediction), and 'number of living' (instead of urban population). The student relies on basic verbs like 'went up' and 'rose' repeatedly. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the presence of errors in word formation prevent a higher score. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise terms for describing trends, such as 'surged', 'plateaued', or 'gradual increase', would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'it will rose', 'it will went up'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'the Indonesia', 'Philippines has fluctuate trends'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic tense consistency and subject-verb agreement. Proofreading for common slips, such as missing 's' on plural nouns or incorrect verb forms after 'will', is essential for achieving a higher band.
