Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all four countries and the time frame provided. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the rapid growth in Malaysia and the slower initial growth in Thailand. However, the overview is slightly confusing; you mention Indonesia was the 'least number' in 1970, but the data shows Thailand started lower. Additionally, there is some repetition of data points between the second and third paragraphs, which makes the reporting feel slightly disjointed. To improve, ensure your overview clearly highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the general upward trajectory for all countries) without getting bogged down in specific numbers, which are better suited for the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the logical progression is hindered by the repetition of data regarding Indonesia and the somewhat abrupt transition between the overview and the body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'afterthat' and 'from there start rising'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing the countries. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus—for example, grouping countries by growth patterns rather than just listing them—would significantly improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'urbanisation', 'forecast', and 'rapidly'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'on the least number of people' instead of 'had the lowest percentage'. There are also consistent spelling errors, such as 'phillippines', 'malysia', and 'prdicted'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('The line graph illustrate') and tense consistency ('Indonesia is having a stable growth'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capitalisation for proper nouns and some run-on sentences. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring consistent verb tenses throughout the report will help improve your accuracy.
