Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making comparisons. However, the overview is slightly confusing; stating that the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia have an 'equal range' is inaccurate based on the data provided. While the main features are highlighted, the analysis of the data is sometimes imprecise, such as the description of the Philippines' trend, which contains factual errors regarding the decline and growth percentages. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data points are read accurately and that the overview clearly summarizes the most significant trends rather than focusing on minor details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'While, Philippines...' and 'than steadily decline'. The transition between ideas is occasionally abrupt, and the referencing is not always clear. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') would help the flow of the essay and improve the logical progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe trends such as 'constantly increasing', 'rose', and 'decline'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'predicting the highest population of the individuals' and 'starting year'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations related to data description, such as 'upward trend', 'fluctuated', or 'reached a peak'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Indonesia are rise', 'Thailand are around'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'will be predicting'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
