Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for all four countries and the future predictions. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the Philippines' trend is slightly inaccurate regarding the 'decline' in 2000, and the comparison between countries lacks precision. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated with the data. To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping the data more logically (e.g., countries with similar growth patterns) and ensuring that the data points cited are accurate and clearly linked to the years provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Then there is', 'In year 2040'). The progression of ideas is clear, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the trends and the specific years could be better managed to avoid a list-like feel. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'increase', 'small', and 'number of individuals'. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'future analysis of population' and 'atmosphere of their related areas', which do not fit the context of a data report. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'projected to reach', 'proportion', and 'urbanization'. Avoid informal phrasing like 'in coming time'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the' population), incorrect prepositions ('in year 1970'), and awkward phrasing ('which 80% in 2040'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles when discussing statistical data. Practicing complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or participial phrases, will also help increase your score.
