IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given three pie charts illustrate the percentage of viewers who watch distinct television programs among three age groups.

Overall, it is readily apparent that the highest proportion of children enjoy sports and cartoon programs, while dramas are more popular among youngsters. Meanwhile, adults show interest in news. The least popular programs are sports and cartoons in this age group along with the middle age group.

To begin with, sports and cartoons are the dominant programs among the 10–15 year age group, whereas these programs are the least preferred by the 16–20 year old and 21–25 year age group. The figure accounts for 14% and 4% for sports, and 15% and 20% for cartoons. Conversely, 6% of children watch news; however, the figure for those aged 16–20 is 18%, as opposed to 21–25 year olds, where the largest percentage is recorded at 33%.

Moreover, 23% of children show interest in dramas, whilst in the case of the middle age group, it is witnessed at 30%, and 22% in 21–25 year olds. Additionally, in the 10–15 year old group, 19% prefer films, even though the proportion of the middle age group is 23%, and the figure is 21% for those who are 21–25 years old.
