Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends and provided data points for the four countries, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have successfully highlighted the overall increase and identified the highest and lowest countries, but the lack of sufficient length means the information is not fully developed. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed comparison of the data points across the time periods and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to avoid a penalty.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited (e.g., 'In addition', 'Moving Further'). There are also issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Overall,it', 'In addition,it'), which disrupts the flow of the text. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that your punctuation is accurate to help the reader navigate your ideas more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'increase', 'grew', and 'rose'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'poplutio', 'Philipine', 'Thaliand', and 'remianed'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'surged', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and proofread your work carefully to eliminate spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'poplutio is going to increase', 'Malaysia is on the top', and 'Thailand is in lowest'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors hinder the overall quality of the writing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and check for common errors like missing articles and incorrect preposition usage.
