Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the overall upward trend and comparing the countries. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the description of Malaysia's trend is confusing, mentioning a 'slight decreased' that is not clearly supported by the data, and the reference to 'towns' instead of 'countries' is a minor inaccuracy. While the key features are highlighted, the data interpretation lacks precision in places, such as the vague description of the Philippines' growth. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited more accurately and that the overview clearly distinguishes between the different rates of growth across the entire period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'By contrast' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'whereby Phillipine reached near the 30%'. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs needs more careful management to ensure that the progression of ideas is consistently logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'projection', 'substantial growth', and 'upward trend'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'sligh decreaased', 'pillipine', and 'thn'. These errors, while not impeding communication, demonstrate a lack of control over more sophisticated vocabulary. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and using collocations more naturally. The repetition of basic structures and the occasional misuse of words like 'towns' instead of 'countries' limits the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the Philippines'), subject-verb agreement issues ('all countries have consistent increase'), and punctuation errors (spacing before commas). While the meaning remains clear, these errors are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for greater accuracy in sentence construction and proofread carefully to eliminate basic errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms. The attempt at complex sentences is noted, but the execution is often flawed.
