Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main trends. The description of the Philippines is inaccurate, claiming it grew in '2 years' (likely misinterpreting the graph's intervals) and describing 'ups and downs' which are not clearly supported by the data. The report lacks a coherent summary of the key features, and the comparison between countries is underdeveloped. The prediction section is vague, attributing the growth to 'luxury provided in metropolitans,' which is an external opinion rather than a report of the data provided. To improve, focus on identifying the starting points, end points, and the most significant trends for each country.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the past data and future predictions is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Whereas' and 'However,' but they are often used incorrectly or in a way that does not enhance the flow of ideas. For example, 'Whereas' is used to contrast two separate descriptions rather than linking related points. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'the cities which are highest in past years was Philippines,' which is grammatically awkward and confusing. Better use of linking words and clearer sentence structure would improve the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and sometimes inappropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'the country known as Indonesia' and 'the country called Malaysia' are repetitive and informal. There are also inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'megapolis' (which is not the standard term for urban population) and 'residency' (when referring to urbanization rates). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. To reach a higher band, you should use more precise terminology related to trends, such as 'urbanization,' 'proportion,' 'projected,' and 'fluctuated,' while avoiding informal filler phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the cities which are highest... was Philippines' and 'the lowest level... were in the country.' Sentence structures are often repetitive or poorly constructed, such as 'has its ups and downs in after years.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. While there is an attempt at complex sentences, they are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
