Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. While it mentions the four countries and the time frame, the description of the trends is confusing and lacks precision. For example, stating 'population is under control' is irrelevant to the graph, which tracks urbanization percentages. The data points are often inaccurate or poorly described, such as the claim that Indonesia 'takes a lead' at 60% when the graph shows other countries reaching higher levels. The response lacks a clear summary of the overall trends, which is essential for Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical organization. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and often incorrect way, such as 'On Another hand' and 'However thee Indonesia'. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between countries. The final sentence is particularly confusing and does not serve as a logical conclusion to the report. Overall, the flow of information is hindered by poor sentence structure and a lack of clear transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'content rise' instead of 'consistent rise', 'all most' instead of 'almost', and 'higest' instead of 'highest'. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing trends or data, relying on basic phrasing that does not accurately convey the information presented in the graph. The lack of precision in describing the data points significantly impacts the clarity of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. Sentence structures are simple and often incomplete or poorly formed, such as 'As we can see that graph have four countries'. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and tense consistency. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing or misplaced commas and periods. The range of structures is very limited, and the errors are pervasive throughout the text, making it difficult to identify any complex sentence attempts that are accurate.
