Student answer (Band 6.0)
The data presents information about the proportion of the community in four Asian nations living in cities between 1970 and 2020. In addition to the prediction for 2030 to 2040.
Overall, the people is showing an upward trend during the given period within all countries. Malaysia has the highest percentage of population and is expected to increase by 2040.
In 1970, Indonesia ranked the lowest percentage with almost 10% followed by Thailand with around 20%. On the other hand, Malaysia and the Philippines were similar with about 30% of the population. Thailand faced steady growth between 1990 and 2020 , but rose sharply after that. Also, the Philippines faced a drop in population between 1990 to 2010 with almost a 10% decline.
Predictions for 2030 to 2040 are encouraging across all countries. First, Malaysia is expected to have around a 90% rising number of society by 2040. Meanwhile, Thailand is predicted to achieve a 50% increase by 2040 and is ranked the least among the others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have addressed the main features of the graph, including the overall trend and specific data points. However, there are inaccuracies in your reporting. For instance, you state the Philippines faced a 10% decline between 1990 and 2010, but the graph shows a steady increase. Additionally, your description of Thailand's growth is slightly confusing, and the claim that Thailand is 'ranked the least' by 2040 contradicts the visual data. To improve, ensure you carefully verify the data points against the graph and provide a more accurate summary of the trends. The overview is present but could be more clearly linked to the specific data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition to', 'Overall', and 'Meanwhile'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The second sentence is a fragment ('In addition to the prediction for 2030 to 2040.'), which disrupts the coherence. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that every sentence is complete will help improve the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'proportion', 'upward trend', and 'steady growth'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'the people is showing' (should be 'the population is showing') and 'rising number of society'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the people is showing') and incorrect preposition usage ('ranked the lowest percentage with almost 10%'). There are also punctuation and sentence structure issues, such as the sentence fragment in the introduction. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for sentence fragments.
