Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for all four countries and the projections for 2030 and 2040. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the Philippines as having a 'fallen nature' is inaccurate, as the graph shows a fluctuating trend rather than a consistent decline. Furthermore, the comparison between countries is occasionally confusing, such as the claim that Thailand will be the 'lowest' in 2040, which contradicts the visual data. While the key trends are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the data points and the misinterpretation of some trends limit the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Wherever' to start a sentence or 'Therefore' when it does not logically follow the previous point. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. While the reader can follow the general intent, the lack of smooth transitions and the repetitive structure of the sentences hinder the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. Phrases like 'proportionate data of the peoples' and 'fallen nature' are unnatural and do not accurately describe the trends in a graph. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and some word choices are incorrect, such as 'predictors' instead of 'projections' or 'government' when referring to the countries themselves. The range is insufficient to convey the information with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Citizen living... will be highest'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'Philippines was top living individuals'). The attempt at complex sentences is often marred by errors, such as the misuse of 'Although' and 'Whereas'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma placement. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
