Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main trends for the four countries. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the overall growth across all nations. The description of the data is somewhat mechanical, listing each country individually without sufficient comparison or synthesis. While the key features are identified, the lack of a cohesive overview and the limited analytical depth prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking differences or similarities, such as Malaysia's dramatic rise compared to the more moderate growth in Thailand.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or simplistic (e.g., 'At the first talking about', 'Second is', 'The third is'). The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group ideas to show relationships between the countries. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall progression of information feels like a list rather than a cohesive report. Improving the use of linking words like 'conversely', 'meanwhile', or 'in contrast' would significantly enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'population', 'percent', and 'increase'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'staying in urban', 'rapid soaring population', and 'moderate climp up'. The student struggles to use a range of vocabulary appropriate for describing trends in a graph. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'urbanization', 'fluctuate', 'significant growth', or 'gradual increase', and focus on correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The graph have', 'This country have'), incorrect verb tenses ('it gonna around'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tenses are used consistently when describing past data and future predictions.
