Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the task adequately. While it identifies some trends, the description is incomplete and stops abruptly mid-sentence. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the data reporting is inconsistent and contains significant inaccuracies (e.g., misinterpreting the graph's timeline and data points). The report does not cover all four countries effectively, and the abrupt ending prevents a full summary of the information. The inclusion of '20240' as a year is a clear error in data interpretation. To improve, ensure all data points are accurately transcribed and that the response is fully completed before the time limit.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows some attempt at logical organization, with an introduction and body paragraphs. However, the progression is severely hampered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'However', but they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. Paragraphing is present but the final paragraph is left unfinished, which disrupts the overall flow and structure of the report. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that ideas are linked smoothly throughout the entire text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'phillippines' (capitalization and spelling) and 'begining'. The phrasing is often awkward, such as 'a third number of people' and 'reached the highest to 50%'. The vocabulary used is sufficient to convey basic meaning but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more accurate terminology for describing trends, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'urban population', and pay closer attention to spelling and capitalization.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the Malaysia', 'the Thailand'), subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex structures often result in errors, such as 'the population of Indonesia was just 14% in the begining of the period but climbed significantly after that and reached the highest to 50% in 2020and will remain similar'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be highly beneficial.
