Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all four countries and the time period, including the predictions. However, the overview is weak; it lists the countries rather than identifying the main trends, such as the overall upward trajectory for all nations. The reporting of data is sometimes inaccurate or confusing (e.g., stating Malaysia was 30 to 45 from 1970 to 1990, when the graph shows a different progression). The description of the Philippines' trend is particularly difficult to follow due to imprecise data reporting. To improve, focus on grouping the countries by similar trends and ensuring the data points cited are accurate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward transitions and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often misused (e.g., 'Fristly', 'After it sharply roses', 'On the other hand'). The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and word formation, such as 'account of the population' instead of 'percentage of the population', and 'fluctutation' instead of 'fluctuation'. The student struggles with verb forms, frequently using 'roses' or 'rose' incorrectly as a verb (e.g., 'it will rose to 45'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the repeated errors in basic terminology prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More variety in reporting verbs and nouns is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Tense usage is inconsistent, particularly when discussing past data versus future predictions (e.g., 'it will rose to 45'). There are also persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and word order. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering the correct use of past and future tenses and ensuring consistent subject-verb agreement.
