Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but it fails to provide a clear overview or a coherent comparison of the trends. While it identifies the four countries and their growth, the information is presented in a fragmented manner. The description of the data is often inaccurate or confusing, such as stating that Malaysia is the 'largest population country' when the graph depicts percentages of urban population. Furthermore, the response lacks a proper introduction or a concluding summary of the main trends, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 response. The data points mentioned are sometimes imprecise, and the overall structure does not effectively highlight the key differences between the countries over the specified period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into short, disjointed paragraphs that lack logical progression. While there is an attempt to use transition words like 'Second to' and 'Next is', the connection between sentences is often weak or mechanical. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the countries. The paragraphing is inconsistent, with some paragraphs containing only one or two sentences, which disrupts the flow of the report. There is no clear overall structure, and the lack of cohesive devices to link ideas within and between paragraphs makes the text feel repetitive and fragmented.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic terms like 'grow', 'country', and 'percentage'. There are several instances of awkward word choices and unnatural collocations, such as 'percentages of human grow' and 'reside the graph'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information being presented. The student does not demonstrate the ability to use more sophisticated or precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuate', 'proportion', 'urbanization', or 'projected'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the readability of the text. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The graph... are Philippines'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'From it is reside the graph of each country information'). The student primarily uses simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty or unclear. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and spacing. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and syntax limits the score in this criterion.
