Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main trends from the graph for all four countries, mentioning starting points, changes, and predictions. However, the data points provided contain several inaccuracies when compared to the source graph. For example, the student states that Indonesia's population in 1970 was 'about to 12 percent' (actual is 14%) and that it reaches '60 percent' in 2040 (actual is 64%). Additionally, the overview provided in the opening sentence ('increase day by day because of facilities of a standerd life') offers outside reasoning rather than summarizing the visual data itself. Furthermore, paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the details are lumped together rather than clearly contrasted or grouped. This puts the performance at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text lacks proper paragraphing, with the body sentences crammed into an unstructured block of text following a single introductory sentence. Logical progression is weak because comparisons between countries are abrupt, and cohesive devices are either missing or misused (e.g., 'all then start increasing' and 'perdiction is taht'). While there is a basic chronological attempt to follow the data across the years for each country, the lack of clear discourse markers, punctuation, and stanza breaks makes the text difficult to follow. This aligns with the Band 4.0 descriptors for cohesion and paragraphing.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on phrases like 'The population of... cities was about'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'standerd', 'indonesia', 'perdiction', 'deline', 'persent', 'fromm1990', 'taht', and 'campare'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic of urban percentages, the range is extremely limited, and lexical errors are frequent, restricting the score to Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are heavily flawed and unpunctuated, resulting in frequent run-on sentences. For instance, 'The population of thailand cities was about to 20 percent it increase to 30 percent in 1990 and constant till 2020.' Tense usage is inconsistent, struggling to shift between past data ('was', 'increase') and future predictions ('prediction is that it goes'). Punctuation is largely absent between independent clauses. These persistent grammatical errors impede readability and place the writing at Band 4.0.
