Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is severely under-length, containing only 93 words compared to the required minimum of 150 words. This significantly impacts task completion as the student fails to adequately report the main features or make comprehensive comparisons across all four countries. Although there is an attempt to introduce an overview and mention some trends, the information is extremely partial and abruptly cuts off mid-sentence ('after it depic some flu'). In accordance with the IELTS assessment criteria, under-length responses cannot achieve a passing band score above 4.0 for Task Achievement, as key parts of the visual data are omitted and undeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text demonstrates a basic attempt at organisation, using cohesive markers like 'Overall' and 'To begin with'. However, the logical progression is disrupted by sentence fragments, abrupt shifts in topics, and incomplete thoughts. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the response breaking off prematurely in the second paragraph. Referencing is also confusing; for example, the phrase 'provided four catagories shows significant rise thoughout the period, in the malaysia population were hieghtes' lacks clear grammatical links and cohesive flow. Because the text is unfinished and disjointed, it falls squarely within the Band 4 descriptor for structural coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable spelling and word-form errors that detract from the writing. Examples include 'catagories', 'thoughout', 'hieghtes', 'expriance', 'fluthuation', 'slighly', and 'gruw'. While the student attempts some topic-related vocabulary like 'proportion' and 'predictions', the lexical range is severely restricted and heavily dependent on simple terms. Word choices are frequently inaccurate, such as 'hieghtes' for highest and 'fluthuation' for fluctuations. These lexical limitations and errors place the response at Band 4.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain frequent foundational errors. Examples of structural and grammatical faults include 'its depics the predictions', 'the malaysia population were hieghtes', and 'after tha it was slighly climb'. Punctuation and capitalisation rules are frequently ignored, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('its depics') and misplacing commas. Because errors are frequent, distort meaning in places, and the response ends abruptly, it aligns with the descriptors for Band 4.
