Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is severely under-length, containing only 95 words compared to the required minimum of 150 words. This significantly impacts task achievement as the summary is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence. While the student attempts an introduction and an overview, mentioning Malaysia and Indonesia, the main body of the response is cut short after discussing only part of Malaysia's data and a fragment on Thailand. Because of the failure to meet the length requirement and the incomplete reporting of the data, the response falls under Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into short introductory and overview paragraphs, followed by a body paragraph that trails off abruptly. Basic cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Overall', 'whereas', and 'while', but referencing and logical progression are hindered by the premature truncation of the text. Paragraphing is attempted but remains underdeveloped due to the incomplete nature of the essay. Consequently, it aligns best with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a basic vocabulary range suitable for describing trends, using words like 'proportion', 'percentage', and 'rose'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors, such as 'Philippined', 'malaysia' (capitalization issues), 'approxmately', and 'continusely'. The range of vocabulary is limited and mechanical, which restricts the lexical score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and attempted complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak. Examples include errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition use, such as 'in 30 percent' instead of 'at 30 percent' and 'the percentage of the thailand was 31 per'. Punctuation and capitalization are inconsistent throughout the text. Because the response is cut off, the range of grammatical structures displayed is very limited. This warrants a Band 5.0.
