Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to cover the main trends in the line graph, but it suffers from severe data inaccuracy and complete confusion regarding the countries. For instance, the student states that the Philippines reaches almost 80% by 2040 and that Malaysia drops significantly, which completely contradicts the visual data where Malaysia is actually the one reaching over 80% and the Philippines only reaches about 55.5%. Furthermore, the description of Thailand and Indonesia contains major factual errors about the numbers and intersections shown in the graph. This fails to accurately report the main features and comparisons, placing the response below the requirements for higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs with basic introductory and concluding remarks, and attempts to use transitional markers such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Besides it'. However, the logical progression is undermined by the confused data and inaccurate country references. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion often feels mechanical or forced. Referencing is frequently unclear because the pronouns and names are mixed up between the different country data lines, causing confusion for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for discussing charts, using terms such as 'percentage', 'proportion', 'increase constantly', and 'rise'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'Phillippines', 'Malasia', 'percentile' (used incorrectly instead of 'percentage'), and 'throughput' instead of 'throughout'. Less common vocabulary is attempted but frequently misused, leading to awkward collocations and imprecise communication of statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The given line graph depicts...' and 'Furthermore, it can be seen clearly that...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring recurring errors in prepositions and tense consistency, such as 'in year 1970' instead of 'in 1970' and 'will reach at almost'. There are also awkward passive and active voice constructions like 'cities population in Indonesia will increase constantly'. Errors are frequent enough to occasionally cause strain for the reader.
