Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover all four countries and the time frame from 1970 to 2040, providing an overview and some specific data points. However, the interpretation of the data contains several inaccuracies. For instance, the student states that Philippines had the 'densier cities' in 1970 and that Malaysia had the second highly populated cities with nearly 30 percent, but some of the trend descriptions are confused, particularly regarding fluctuations. The overview is somewhat simplistic ('Indonesia and Malaysia observe surge... whereas Thailand and Philippines reflect rise and fall'), which does not fully capture the overall upward trajectories visible in all four countries. Consequently, the task is only partially satisfied, aligning with Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into four paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs discussing the countries. However, logical progression is hindered by poor referencing and a lack of clear cohesive devices. Sentences are often abrupt and lack smooth transitions (e.g., 'In 1970 data shows... later it observe...'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak and repetitive ('cities', 'migration'). There is no clear overall progression linking the ideas together effectively, which places this aspect firmly in Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, frequently misusing terms related to urbanization. For example, the student writes 'population favours to live in cities' instead of 'urban population' or 'percentage of urban residents', and confuses 'migration' with urbanization levels. Words like 'densier', 'imigration', and 'develop cities' show noticeable errors in word choice and spelling. Although meaning can generally be understood, the limited range and frequent lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but grammatical control is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation (e.g., 'Indonesia had considered to be', 'it observe a high migration', missing capitalizations, and stray spaces). Sentences often run together or lack necessary articles and prepositions. While some basic structures are correct, the high frequency of grammatical errors causes difficulty for the reader and prevents the writing from achieving a Band 6.
