Student answer (Band 5.0)

Here we have a graph of increasing the percentage of people living in urban areas in four different countries of the world .We are assinged to compare the number of population raising every year in cities .

As we can see that in year 1970 there is small number of over all population living in cities, like; here in begining of the graph there are only 12% people in cities in Indonesia and there are about 31% people living in cities in philippines likewise, in Malaysia this ratio is about 30% and in Thailand this ratio is about 19% of the total population of each country .

When time flows this ratio is increasing siginficantly in each country and at the end of graph this ratio rise to 82% in Malalysia which highest growing ratio then other countries and the where population in cities rise very low then the other countries in the graph is Thailand which is about 43%v .like wise, this ratio is slightly high in other two countries but it is still less than the Malaysia .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by discussing urban population percentages across the four countries, but it falls short in several key areas. The introduction includes meta-language and conversational framing ('Here we have a graph...', 'We are assinged to...'), which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 essay. Furthermore, the selection of data is erratic and misses important trends or overall comparisons; for instance, the description of the starting points contains inaccurate figures (claiming Indonesia was 12% when the graph shows 14%). While it attempts to highlight Malaysia and Thailand at the end, the data cited is imprecise and lacks a fully developed overview. Consequently, this performance aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed only partially with limited and under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks clear paragraphing, presented instead as a poorly structured block of text with conversational framing at the start. Logical progression is weak; sentences are loosely connected with simplistic transition phrases such as 'When time flows' and 'like wise'. Referencing and cohesive devices are frequently mechanical or inadequate, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of comparisons between the four countries. Although there is some overall arrangement of ideas starting from the past and moving to predictions, the lack of clear discourse markers and paragraph breaks severely restricts the coherence of the response, justifying a Band 4.5 or rounded to 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple phrases like 'percentage of people', 'ratio', and 'raise'. There are multiple spelling errors throughout the text, including 'assinged', 'over all', 'begining', 'siginficantly', and 'Malalysia'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'proportion' or 'ratio', word choice and collocations are frequently inaccurate (e.g., 'number of population raising', 'highest growing ratio then other countries'). These lexical shortcomings and persistent spelling errors place the response firmly in the Band 5 category, as the vocabulary is limited and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical structures attempted are largely simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing prepositions, tense inconsistencies ('there is small number... in year 1970'), and incorrect verb forms ('When time flows this ratio is increasing'). Punctuation is also problematic, featuring erratic spacing and run-on structures. Because the range of structures is limited and attempts at complex sentences often result in errors that cause difficulty for the reader, this performance corresponds to a Band 5 for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
