Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the main trends in the provided graph about urban population percentages in four Asian countries. However, the coverage of data is incomplete and contains several inaccuracies. For instance, the student states that at the end of 2020, 80% of people lived in cities in Malaysia, whereas the graph shows approximately 76%. Additionally, the description of the Philippines' trend is confusing and partially inaccurate ('fall for some year than suddenly grow in 1990'). The overview is extremely brief and only partially captures the main trends. While it attempts comparisons and future predictions ('predictions for 2030 and 2040'), the lack of precision in reporting data and underdeveloped overview limit its effectiveness. It meets the minimum word count requirement but stays at a basic level of task fulfillment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into three short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body, and conclusion/overview structure. However, the overall organization lacks a clear, logical progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as 'Both countries cities population' and 'All of this countries population'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow which country or data point is being discussed. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is disjointed due to run-on sentences and sudden shifts between countries, placing the response firmly in the band 5 range.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on simple words like 'population', 'cities', 'graph', 'grow', and 'increase'. There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'cities population', 'Asia countries' instead of 'Asian countries', and 'percentage population lived'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are either missing or inaccurate. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical limitations and awkward phrasings like 'fall for some year than suddenly grow' frequently impede smooth reading and understanding, demonstrating a limited lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex forms that result in severe grammatical errors, such as 'The illustration show about the population...' and 'the percentage of Philippines was fall for some year than suddenly grow'. Tense usage is frequently confused, mixing past descriptions with incorrect present or modal forms ('population should be increased'). Errors in prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and word forms are pervasive throughout the text and frequently cause difficulty for the reader.
