Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at 135 words and leaving the final sentence incomplete. While the student attempts to provide an overview and mentions some general trends, there are significant inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the text refers to 'four cities of Asian country' rather than four countries, and misinterprets the data scale by stating that 'all the cities had the less denced population with 30 to 10 percentage' in 1970. Key features and comparisons are underdeveloped due to the premature ending of the essay, limiting Task Achievement to a band 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay attempts a standard structure with an introduction and an overview. However, logical progression is disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices, such as 'Followed by, in 1990' and 'Moreover, By next decades'. Paragraphing is incomplete as the response cuts off mid-sentence at the end. Referencing is sometimes confusing, as seen when referring to countries as 'cities'. These organizational flaws restrict the coherence of the piece to a band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and contains several spelling and word-choice errors that impede communication. Examples of misspellings and inappropriate forms include 'multipal', 'traks', 'grown', 'modrate', 'denced', 'boust', 'where haveing', and 'reched'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'prediction' and 'respectively', but the high frequency of lexical errors and the confusion between 'countries' and 'cities' place this criterion firmly at a band 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The essay demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and tense confusion (e.g., 'Malaysia and Indonesia had a rocket growth throughout. and reched upto 80 and 55 percent respectively by 2040'). Furthermore, the sentence structure breaks down entirely at the end of the text where the response trails off. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader, resulting in a band 4.5.
