Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by reporting information about the four countries from the chart, but it contains several inaccurate data points and misinterpretations. For example, the student states that Indonesia starts with 4% and rises to 40% in 2010, whereas the chart shows 14% and 43% respectively. Furthermore, the overview is confused, incorrectly stating that the highest population will be predicted in Malaysia and Indonesia (when Malaysia is the highest, but Indonesia is joined by others). The response does cover all four countries and mentions start and end points, but the inaccurate reporting of data and underdeveloped overview limit this to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organized into paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs for the countries, and an overall summary. However, the progression is sometimes difficult to follow due to mechanical and repetitive linking phrases like 'To start with', 'Moving further', and 'Overall'. Referencing within the body paragraphs is also slightly unclear, jumping between years without a consistent logical flow. Paragraphing is present, but the overall progression lacks smooth transitions, justifying a band score of 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and repetitive, with frequent vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'countrie', 'precentage', 'higest', and 'decline' used instead of 'declined'. The student relies heavily on basic verbs like 'measured', 'increased', and 'rise'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic topic about population trends, the persistent errors ('states' instead of 'cities', 'starts with') cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 5.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple and flawed complex sentences. There are frequent tense errors, particularly in mixing past and future predictions (e.g., 'then it will be increases with 50%' and 'it would be increase'). Errors such as missing articles ('in Philippines') and incorrect prepositions ('increased with 49%') occur throughout the text. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar firmly at Band 5.0.
