Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the main features of the graph, noting general trends such as the increase in urban population across all four countries and highlighting Malaysia's high future proportion. However, there are significant inaccuracies in reporting data points. For instance, the text claims that in 2040 Indonesia 'will be more then Thailand and Malaysia' and that Malaysia will be 'around 80% much higher then other three countries' while later stating Indonesia 'will be the second lowest'—which contradicts earlier statements and the visual data. The overview is weak and repetitive, and the selection of data points is sometimes confused, limiting the development of ideas to a Band 5 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some attempt at organization, dividing the description into a brief introduction, body details, and a concluding summary. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, with a large, dense body paragraph containing multiple ideas lumped together without clear separation. Cohesive devices are repetitive or misused, and referencing is frequently unclear (e.g., 'at that both the counties have same percentage'). There is no clear overall progression of ideas, resulting in a disjointed reading experience that aligns with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms such as 'population', 'cites' (cities), and 'percentage'. There are several spelling mistakes ('cites' instead of cities, 'predications' / 'predication' instead of predictions, 'Phillppines') and word choice errors. While the writer attempts some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is limited and noticeable errors in word formation and collocation cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting a Band 5 profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or run-on sentences connected loosely by conjunctions. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the least percentage of population... were of Indonesia') and prepositional errors. Punctuation is also weak, with missing commas and periods causing run-on clauses ('As in 1970 the least percentage... and after that it was...'). Because frequent errors cause difficulty and complex structures are largely absent or faulty, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
