Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response presents an overview with some main trends and comparisons, covering the four countries and the overall timeline. However, the information is somewhat limited and contains generalities or inaccuracies in reporting data, such as claiming the Philippines and Malaysia started at the same level or misinterpreting final percentages like Thailand growing by 45%. Furthermore, ideas lack full extension and some parts of the data are under-developed. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to select and report data more accurately, ensuring all key features are fully supported with precise figures from the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic logical arrangement to the response, with an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs focusing on different countries, and a concluding summary. However, progression is somewhat disjointed and the overall flow lacks clarity due to abrupt transitions. Cohesive devices are used, but they can be repetitive or mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'TO put in a nut shell'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs needs strengthening to ensure information and ideas are logically sequenced throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common terms like 'prediction', 'gradually', 'constant growth', and 'forcasted'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('percntage', 'asian', 'Phillipies', 'Phillippines', 'increses', 'arround', 'begining', 'forcasted', 'Malasia') and awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'is as equal as' and 'topped in the year'. These errors reflect a limited range and can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student should expand their vocabulary range and focus heavily on accurate spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The line chart of Phillippines follows unusual pattern' and 'the percentage of population living in the Phillipies is as equal as Malaysia'. However, there is a limited range of structures successfully used, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in articles ('the Phillipies', 'the Malaysia'), prepositions ('in four asian countries', 'among this four countries'), verb tenses, and agreement, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to exercise greater control over basic grammatical structures and reduce the frequency of errors.
