Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting information for the four countries across the given timeframe, but the content remains limited and under-developed. While an overview is attempted at the beginning and the end, it is repetitive and lacks clarity. The selection of data is somewhat mechanical, with inaccurate references to figures, such as stating Malaysia reached nearby 90 percent when the chart shows a peak around 76 to 83.5 percent depending on the year, and vague descriptions like 'ratherly increased' or 'above than 50%'. Key trends are mentioned, but comparisons between countries are insufficiently developed to present a fully clear picture of the overall progression shown in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organization with paragraphs, but the response lacks clear overall progression. The movement between ideas feels disjointed, and sentences are often linked awkwardly without smooth transitions. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on 'at the end', 'after that', and 'first of all'. Paragraphing is attempted, but grouping related information together is inconsistent—for instance, mixing multiple countries and periods within a single paragraph without a logical flow. Referential pronouns are sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which country or data point is being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'ratherly increased', 'clos to', and 'slowly increaed'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, like 'peak point', but struggles with accurate application. Spelling errors, such as 'Phillipines' and 'alomst', further indicate control restricted to a basic level. To improve, the student needs to incorporate a wider variety of precise reporting verbs and adjectives to describe trends accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The range of structures is limited, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb patterns. Attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, leading to ungrammatical phrasing such as 'Malaysia population percentage is 30% in the start but it is further increase year by year and its reached at the peak point'. There are frequent errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text. Punctuation is also problematic, including unnecessary commas splitting subjects and verbs, and missing apostrophes. These persistent errors can cause strain and confusion for the reader.
