Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response partially addresses the task. You successfully identify some of the main features and trends, such as the overall upward trajectory in urban population percentages and Malaysia's position at the top of the range. However, the data presentation contains several inaccuracies and omissions. For instance, the start year is incorrectly stated as 2014 in the introduction rather than 2020, and many figures are misreported or imprecise compared to the actual visual data, such as Malaysia's 2040 peak and various intermediate points. Furthermore, the response trails off incomplete at the end of Indonesia's description. To reach a higher level, you must ensure that all figures and dates are accurately read from the chart, and complete all parts of the data summary without stopping mid-sentence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates some organisation with an attempt at an overview paragraph and separate paragraphs for body details. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical flow in the body paragraphs, which jump awkwardly between different countries and years without a cohesive strategy. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as relying heavily on 'This ratio' and simple transitional adverbs like 'than' instead of 'then'. Paragraphing is also disrupted, with the final paragraph trailing off abruptly after only a few words. To improve, you need to group information logically—such as comparing countries at key intervals or tracing individual trends systematically—and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt some topic-specific vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'proportion', 'upturn', and 'boomed'. However, there are frequent word choice, word form, and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'popolation' instead of population, 'conitious' instead of continued, 'peacked' instead of peaked, and 'grwe' instead of grew. These errors and inappropriate word formations, such as 'Malaysia popolation of living in cities were', cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict your lexical score. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your range of vocabulary for describing trends and pay careful attention to correct word spelling and parts of speech in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Your writing shows a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic subject-verb constructions. When you attempt more complex sentences, they are frequently faulty, leading to persistent errors in tense selection, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples of these frequent errors include 'Malaysia was represented for the highest proportion', 'Malaysia popolation... were 30%', 'this ratio was increased', and 'This ratio were went down'. Punctuation is also weak, particularly with run-on sentences joined by commas rather than proper conjunctions or full stops. To improve, you need to exercise better control over basic grammatical structures, ensure correct verb tenses for past data and future predictions, and reduce the frequency of basic errors that impede communication.
