Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a minimal attempt to address the prompt, but it struggles to accurately report the main features of the graph. The writer confuses countries with cities ('four Asian countries... mainly four cities', 'philippnies and thailand cities') and misinterprets the data significantly, stating inaccurate percentage ranges such as '10 to 60 % population found in Indonesia'. While there is a brief mention of predictions for the upcoming years and general comparisons, the overall treatment of the task is tangential and lacks a clear, accurate overview of the provided visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Information and ideas are not arranged in a coherent manner. The text lacks logical organization and progression, presenting a single block of text rather than distinct paragraphs. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and often awkward (such as starting multiple sentences with 'So' or 'And when we talk about'). Referencing is also confusing, as the student frequently shifts between countries and cities without clear links, making the overall flow difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'population', 'cities', 'graph', and 'more populated'. There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as calling countries 'cities' and using 'more popular' instead of 'more urbanised'. Spelling and word formation errors also occur, which strains the reader's ability to fully grasp the intended message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on run-on sentences connected by conjunctions. Grammatical errors are frequent and often impede communication. Issues include missing articles, incorrect prepositions ('found in thailand'), subject-verb agreement errors ('they more popular'), and tense confusion when mixing past data with future predictions. Punctuation is also weak, with improper capitalization and comma splices.
