Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, coming in at 123 words overall (with some words copied from the prompt left uncounted), which significantly impacts the development of the task. The student attempts to provide an overview and report some features, but the reporting is minimal and often inaccurate regarding the source data. For instance, the student states that the population of the Philippines was 30 percent in 1970 and remained the same in 2020, whereas the graph shows different figures and fluctuations. The overview is also very basic, attempting to outline general trends for Malaysia and Indonesia but lacking clarity and full development across all four countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates some basic organization with an introductory paragraph, an overview attempt, and a body paragraph. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the arrangement of ideas feels disjointed and mechanical. Cohesive devices are used very simply and repetitively, such as 'Also' and 'while', and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are underdeveloped and fail to logically group the comparative data in a way that guides the reader smoothly through the information presented in the line graph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors that strain the reader's understanding. There are several vocabulary errors throughout the text, such as 'proporation' and 'propration' for proportion, 'illutrates' for illustrates, 'comperesion' for comparison, and 'considerbely' for considerably. The student attempts some less common terms like 'predicted' and 'urban areas', but the limited range and frequent inaccuracies mean that communication is occasionally impeded by lexical flaws.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex or relative clauses are frequently faulty, such as 'who living in urban areas' instead of 'living in urban areas' or 'who live in urban areas'. Frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, and prepositions are present, such as 'was sharply increase', 'it was slightly rose', and 'Thailand was had'. Punctuation is also weak, and these frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader throughout the text.
