Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the main trends from the line graph regarding urban population percentages in four countries, but it only partially addresses the task requirements. While an overall trend is attempted, the information provided is often inaccurate and confusingly described. For example, the student misinterprets the data points and labels countries incorrectly, stating that Malaysia started at 32% and Philippines at 30% in 1970 when the chart shows different figures. Furthermore, some data points mentioned, such as '605 of the papulation' and percentages for 2040, do not accurately reflect the visual data. The overview lacks clarity and fails to clearly highlight the overall trajectory of urbanization across the four nations, resulting in an underdeveloped and disjointed response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organization with attempts to structure the response into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs ('On the first side', 'Secondly'). However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical relationship between sentences is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, and referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to follow the progression of the data. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak due to disjointed phrasing and abrupt transitions between countries and years.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on words like 'papulation' (population) and basic numbers. There are frequent lexical errors in word choice, spelling, and word form throughout the text, such as 'improvements' instead of projections, 'Subtients', and 'ration' instead of ratio. These noticeable errors and limited lexical range cause strain and difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended data points, restricting the response to a basic level of communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and sentence structures, such as 'The line graph give information' and 'Thailand and Indonesia is both are similar ration rise and fall'. Punctuation and article usage are also problematic. These frequent errors and clumsy structures cause significant difficulty and confusion for the reader.
