Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response makes an attempt to address the prompt by discussing urbanisation trends in the four countries, but it only partially covers the task. While an overview is attempted at the start of the body and at the conclusion, the selection of data is weak and inaccurate. For instance, the writer claims that Malaysia had the highest population of 30 percent in 1970, which misinterprets both the country with the highest initial value and the actual data points. Furthermore, trends are described simplistically or incorrectly, such as stating that the population of Malaysia reached 70% in 2020 when the graph indicates 76%. Key comparative features are missing, and the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the essay, featuring an introduction, body sections, and a concluding sentence, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is disjointed, with abrupt transitions and awkward formatting, such as starting sentences mid-line with lowercase letters (e.g., 'firstly, the heighest...'). Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, such as the misuse of 'Consiquently' to introduce the Philippines data. Referencing and logical connections between sentences are frequently faulty, making the overall arrangement somewhat difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, containing noticeable lexical errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Word choices are often unnatural, such as referring to people as 'the masses' and 'surviving in the cities' instead of residing or living in urban areas. There are also multiple spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, including 'asian' (uncapitalized), 't0', 'heighest', 'recoreded', 'increase' instead of increased, 'percntage', 'percnet', 'continously', and 'Consiquently'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that turn out faulty. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text. Examples include 'the percentage of population of four countries... has been gradually increase or decrease', 'it will be increase by 2020 and 2030', and 'it population decreased'. These frequent grammatical errors cause noticeable strain and difficulty for the reader.
