Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping short at 122 words. Regarding content, the student attempts to present an overview and mention trends for the four countries, but the information provided is very limited and contains inaccuracies. For instance, claiming that the population percentage for Malaysia increased drastically while Thailand and Philippines encountered fluctuations overlooks key details and comparative features across the timeframe. The overview is overly simplistic, and the overall development lacks the depth required to fully report the main features and comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates some basic organization, separating the introduction, an overview, and body details into separate paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression or sophisticated logical sequencing. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, and sometimes repetitive, such as relying heavily on basic transition phrases and loose sentence connections like 'coming to the countries'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, meaning information does not flow smoothly from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the response. Examples of errors include misspelling 'anout' for 'about', 'poeple' for 'people', 'asian' without capitalization, and 'flactuations' for 'fluctuations'. The student attempts some less common terms like 'drastically' and 'population analysis', but these choices reflect limited control over collocations and word forms, leading to minor communication strains for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are issues with capitalization, such as 'overall, The', and missing articles or incorrect prepositions in phrases like 'from 1970 and 2020' instead of 'between 1970 and 2020'. Attempts at more complex phrasing result in faulty syntax and frequent errors in punctuation and agreement, which can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
