Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject and gives an overview, noting that Malaysia and Indonesia rise. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: the Philippines fluctuates and ultimately increases, while Thailand also rises, rather than both experiencing a decline. The response stops before reporting any supporting figures or meaningful comparisons, and the unfinished phrase “fristly, looking at the” leaves the task largely incomplete. It contains 50 words, below the required 150, so there is not enough information to summarise the main features adequately. To improve, complete the report with key changes across the period, compare the countries’ levels and trends, and include selected approximate figures from the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory sentence is followed by an overview, and “overall” and “fristly” signal stages of the report. This gives the reader a minimal sense of intended structure. However, the final paragraph breaks off mid-sentence, so there is no progression into details or comparisons, and the ideas are not developed into a complete summary. The spacing and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several unnecessary gaps. Use a clear sequence—introduction, overview, then one or two paragraphs comparing the trends—and ensure each paragraph contains complete, connected information.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “line graph,” “percentage,” “predictions,” “trend,” and “decline,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is very limited, and several spelling errors—such as “praportion,” “lliving,” “malesiya,” and “philipines”—make the writing look uncontrolled. Some phrasing is also imprecise: “the figure … will show up trend” is not a natural way to describe a projected increase. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions and country names, and use them to describe rises, falls, fluctuations, and comparisons precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few sentence forms, including a present-tense introduction and an overview using “will,” and the main message can be understood. However, grammatical control is uneven. The opening has an awkward structure (“illustrates the data about the proportion”), the overview contains a faulty construction (“the figure of … will show up trend”), and the final clause is incomplete. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “overall, it is evident the the figure.” Aim for complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, agreement, and punctuation. A simple, accurate comparison sentence is preferable to an unfinished or faulty complex one.
