Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the overall contrast that Malaysia has the highest urban population share and Thailand is generally the lowest, and you report several broad trends, including Malaysia’s strong rise and Indonesia’s growth. However, some figures and periods are inaccurate: the Philippines rises from about 32% to 34% between 1970 and 1980, rather than staying near 31%, and its 2040 figure is about 56%, not 53%. Thailand also rises gradually from 1990 to 2020 rather than remaining flat. The overview is limited and does not mention Indonesia’s marked rise or the Philippines’ fluctuation. Select the most important comparisons and report them accurately across the full period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has separate introductory, overview and detail paragraphs, and the country-by-country approach gives it some organisation. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is difficult to follow because several changes are joined in long, loosely connected sequences, such as “and 1980 to 1990… and 1990 to 2010…”. Linking phrases including “First and foremost,” “However,” and “At least but not last” are either mechanical or unclear, and the final phrase does not clearly signal a comparison. Group information into clearer sentences and use time markers consistently. A more focused overview followed by logically ordered comparisons would make the report easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increase,” and “decrease,” so the main subject is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “go to straight,” “regularly increase,” and “At least but not last.” Country names are also misspelled (“asian,” “malaysia,” and “indonasia”), which reduces accuracy and polish. Use standard trend language and vary it with precise verbs such as “rise,” “decline,” “level off,” and “fluctuate.” Check spelling and choose collocations that describe data naturally, rather than translating phrases literally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to describe changes over time, but sentence structures are mostly simple or joined into long, faulty sequences. The opening has subject–verb disagreement: “The line graph illustrate” should be “The line graph illustrates.” Other problems include missing or incorrect articles and prepositions, as in “in 1970 to 1980,” and unclear sentence construction in “31%% to increase 45%.” Commas and spaces around punctuation are also inconsistent. These errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to understand. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate past-tense forms for historical data and future forms for predictions.
