Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the general subject and attempt an overview, noting that urban populations rise and that Malaysia shows a strong increase. However, the account is only minimally informative: several key trends are missing or unclear, and some details conflict with the chart. Indonesia rises from about 14% to 52% by 2020 and is projected to reach 64% in 2040, rather than ending at 65% without a clear date. Malaysia climbs steadily, not with the stated fluctuation, while the Philippines rises to a peak in 1990, falls, then recovers. Thailand also increases gradually before a stronger projected rise. Select these main comparisons and report the periods and figures accurately to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and words such as “Overall,” “while” and “whereas” show an effort to connect ideas. However, the progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow: phrases such as “at the center of the figure” and “at the end” do not identify clear years, and the final paragraph moves between Malaysia and the Philippines without explaining their comparison. Several sentences run together, while repeated references to “the figure” do not help the reader track the data. Group the countries by trend, use clear time markers, and give each paragraph a distinct purpose to improve the organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increase” and “fluctuation,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and inaccurate word choice or spelling often makes the meaning hard to interpret. Examples include “four different nation,” “living population cities,” “had a height increase” and “flucution rise.” Use precise terms for the data, such as “urban population,” “rose steadily,” “peaked” and “declined,” rather than repeating “increase” or using unclear phrases. Careful spelling is also important: errors such as “popoulation,” “Additonaly” and “Thiland” distract from the information and reduce clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form longer sentences using connectors such as “while” and “whereas,” but sentence structures are very limited and errors frequently obscure relationships between ideas. For example, “Overall, it is clear that percentage of population four diferent cities are increase” lacks articles and has incorrect agreement and verb form. In “Indonesia had a start in the 11 percent … it was increase,” the tense and sentence construction are faulty, and several clauses are joined without clear punctuation. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses: for example, “Indonesia’s urban share rose from about 14% in 1970 to 52% in 2020.” Check articles, subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms and sentence boundaries.
