Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the general subject and mention all four countries, with some relevant trends—for example, Malaysia rises and Indonesia grows substantially. However, the response only minimally reports the graph’s main features: it has no clear overview comparing the countries, and several descriptions are inaccurate or too vague. The Philippines does not simply “less grow” after 2020; it is projected to rise to about 56% by 2040. Thailand does not stop growing in 2000, but increases gradually, while Indonesia’s rapid rise is not compared clearly with Malaysia’s higher projected level. Include a concise overview and select accurate comparisons, supported by key figures from the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to group the information: the first body section discusses the Philippines and Malaysia, and the next turns to Thailand and Indonesia. Time markers such as “after that” and “between 1970 to 1990” also show an effort to sequence trends. However, the opening is unclear, and the response does not progress from an overview to organised comparisons. Repeated transitions make the account feel like a list, while pronouns such as “he,” “they,” and “it” have unclear references. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and grouped comparisons, and connect ideas with precise references to each country and period.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, particularly the repeated phrase “grow up,” which is not a natural way to describe changes in percentages. Some wording makes the intended trend difficult to understand, as in “Malaysia will mani grow” and “They are be grow up over country population.” There are also spelling errors in country names, including “Philippnies” and “Indonessia.” You do use relevant terms such as “population” and “slow,” so the topic is recognisable, but the limited range and inaccurate word choice strain communication. Practise standard trend language such as “increase,” “rise,” “decline,” and “remain stable,” alongside accurate country names.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to describe changes across several time periods and use some linking clauses, including “but after 1980” and “after that.” However, sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes distort meaning. For example, “The graph show” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the Thailand will grow” and “they will too grow up than he down” show problems with articles, tense, and clause structure. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because its time reference is incomplete. Build accurate simple sentences first, then practise combining them with “while,” “whereas,” and “although.”
