Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the overall upward movement and correctly note that Malaysia finishes highest, while Indonesia starts lowest. However, the report only partially selects and describes the main features, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, Indonesia rises steadily to about 52% in 2020 and is projected to reach about 64% in 2040; it does not reach 62% and then rise to 45%. The statement that Thailand had the least population at the end is also incorrect: it remains the lowest of the four, but its figure is about 50%, while the other countries are higher. Include a clearer overview and compare the countries’ different patterns, especially Malaysia’s strong rise and the Philippines’ fluctuation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and it uses some linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Initially” and “whereas.” These help the reader recognise the broad stages of the report. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear: the Indonesia paragraph moves from its early trend to a claim about 2040 and then refers to a rise to 45% without a clear time reference. The final paragraph also combines Malaysia and the Philippines without consistently organising their comparisons. Use one paragraph to describe the main trends and another to compare key figures at selected dates, with clear time markers and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “approximately,” “rapid rise,” “ups and downs” and “at the end of the period,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or spelling errors make parts of the report difficult to interpret. “Population” is repeatedly used where “urban population” or “proportion living in cities” would be more precise, and “fluctuation” does not accurately describe Indonesia’s steady rise. Errors such as “beigining,” “Fucluation,” “stagnnent” and “poplution” also reduce clarity. Build a more accurate set of trend terms and check spelling; for example, distinguish between a figure that “rose,” “levelled off” or “fluctuated.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “As the time increasing graph shows incresement in population,” but many structures are faulty, and errors sometimes make the intended meaning unclear. Examples include “the line chart illustrate,” “Indonesia has lowest number,” and “The line is rose,” which show problems with agreement, articles and verb forms. The sentence about the graph becoming “stagnnent till 2020 and further rise to 45%” also lacks a clear grammatical structure and time reference. Aim first for accurate, complete sentences with a consistent past tense for historical data and “is projected to” for forecasts. Then add complex clauses only when you can control their grammar.
