Student answer (Band 5.0)
This graph is basically illustrating the population percentage whuch live in cities in Philipines, Thailand ,Malaysia and Indonesia. The graph shows information from 1970 to 2020 with the pridiction for 2030 and 2040. In 1970 ,Philipines constituted about 30 percent of total population living in cities. It increased upto almost 50 percent in 1980.It declined uptill 2010 and will incline till 2040.In the start of 1970, ratio of people living in cities is almost same as that in Philipines . But there is a sudden increase after 1990 as compared to Philipines and will approach upto 85 percent till 2040.If we see the Thailand, the percentage of people in cities fluctuates in such a way that first it increases gradually and then decrease. In Indonesia firsty, the percentage is lowest of all. but it continued to increase and will reach upto 60 percent by the end of 2040.In conclusion we can say that Indonesia and Malaysia have almost the same ratios.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the countries and the period, and you attempt to describe changes in each series. However, the account is only partially accurate and the main features are not clearly summarised. For example, the Philippines rises to about 48% in 1990, not almost 50% in 1980, and its later movement is not simply a decline followed by an increase: it falls to around 42.5% in 2010 before recovering. Thailand rises gradually overall rather than decreasing, while the conclusion that Indonesia and Malaysia have almost the same ratios is unsupported; Malaysia is much higher by 2040. Include a clear overview of the contrasting trends and report key comparisons accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a broadly chronological pattern and mentions all four countries, so the reader can identify the general subject. However, ideas are not arranged into a clear overview followed by organised details, and several transitions make the relationships difficult to follow. The sentence beginning “In the start of 1970” is unclear about which country is being compared, while “If we see the Thailand” introduces a new series without a clear link to the previous point. The conclusion also repeats a comparison that does not reflect the graph. Grouping countries with similar trends and using clear references such as “By contrast” would improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “declined,” “increase,” and “gradually,” which helps communicate basic trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “constituted about 30 percent,” “will incline,” and “ratios” for urban-population shares. Spelling errors, including “whuch,” “Philipines,” and “pridiction,” are noticeable and reduce the precision of the report. Aim for standard graph language such as “accounted for,” “is projected to rise,” and “proportion of the population,” and check spelling carefully. More precise trend vocabulary would help distinguish steady growth, fluctuation, and recovery.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main topic is usually understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences, and errors in tense, articles, agreement, and punctuation recur. For example, “the percentage … fluctuates … first it increases … and then decrease” shifts tense and has faulty agreement, while “In Indonesia firsty, the percentage is lowest of all. but it continued to increase” mixes present and past forms and incorrectly begins a sentence with a lowercase letter. Commas are often separated from the preceding word, and sentence boundaries are sometimes unclear. Practise consistent past-tense reporting for historical data and use “is projected to” for forecasts.
