Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given line chart illustrates the information of variation in population in 4 different Asian countries from 1970 to 2020 and prediction upto 2040.

overall the chart describes that the population of Malaysia is increasing at very high rate and there is not any major change in percentage of population of philippines. And according to prediction as shown in graphs displalys that in 2040 Malaysia has highest population in between given four countries and thailand has least.

The rate of increasing population of phlippines was not significant upto 1990 as it just increased 10-12% in 20 years but after that population growth was massive which reached upto 70% in 2020 and has chances to reach around 80% upto 2040.

The population of philippines was fluctuating in the period from 1970 to 2010 but after that it is increasing at a constant rate upto 2020 and will continue to rise constantly and will reach to 50-55% growth.

While on the other hand the incresing rate of both indonesia and thailand is nearly same until 2000 but in following years the rate of incriment increses sharply and reached upto 50% growth and pridicted to be 60% rise upto 2040 . In contrast thailand's population was increasing at a stable rate but might be there wiould be sharp increase reaching 2040.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad upward trend in Malaysia and note that the Philippines fluctuates, but several central figures and comparisons are substantially inaccurate. The Philippines is described as reaching 70% in 2020 and 80% by 2040, whereas the chart shows about 45.5% and 55.5%. The claim that Thailand has the lowest figure in 2040 is also incorrect: it is projected at about 49.5%, while the Philippines is higher and Malaysia leads. Indonesia rises to about 52% by 2020 and 64% by 2040, not simply 50% and 60%. The overview is present but incomplete, and the account of the trends is underdeveloped. Report the main figures accurately and compare the countries’ different trajectories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an opening, an overview and separate paragraphs for country trends, so there is some attempt to organise the information. However, progression is difficult to follow because the discussion shifts between countries and periods without a consistent structure. The paragraph beginning “The rate of increasing population of phlippines” gives figures that conflict with the following paragraph about the Philippines, making the relationship between ideas unclear. Linking phrases such as “overall” and “on the other hand” are used, but they do not always establish accurate or helpful contrasts. Group the countries by their trends, use one paragraph for the overview and another or two for supporting comparisons, and ensure each reference clearly identifies the country and period.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “fluctuating,” “stable rate,” “prediction,” and “increasing.” This gives the response a basic range, but word choice and spelling errors are frequent enough to make parts less clear or less natural. Phrases such as “information of variation in population,” “rate of increment increases sharply,” and “50% growth” are awkward or imprecise for describing the proportion of people living in cities. There are also misspellings, including “phlippines,” “displalys,” and “pridicted.” Use precise terms such as “urban population share” and “percentage points,” and check spelling and collocations. Avoid calling the figures population growth when the chart measures the share living in cities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “but,” and the general meaning is often recoverable. However, complex sentences are frequently faulty, and errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes make the message difficult to interpret. For example, “overall the chart describes that” is an awkwardly formed clause, while “there is not any major change in percentage” lacks a clear article and natural grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “While on the other hand” is also incomplete in its construction, and “might be there wiould be” has an incorrect word order and verb form. Practise building complete sentences with accurate tense and punctuation, especially when combining comparisons and predictions.
