Student answer (Band 5.0)

The Graph illustrates the information regarding the percentage of the popultion in four asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020 with perdictions for 2030 and 2040.

Overall the four cities name as Phillippines, Malysia, Thailand and Indonesia and the highest trend increased is for Malysia, the trendof Malysia was at 30% in 1970, where the phillippines also at 30% but Thailand was at 20%and the least perecentage shows in graph was for Indonesia where the trend was at around 10% in 1970.

However fluctuation is involved in this graph from 1970 to 2040, where in 2020 Malysia were at 70% which was the highest percentage in this graph and in future it will be goes to 80% in 2030 and 2040, as according to predictions, where Indonesia was at around 50% in 2020 but shown at around 60% in 2030 and at 60% in 2040 .

Furthermore Thailand was at 40% in 2020 and it will be increased in 2030 where the perdiction is around 50% in 2030 and around 60% in 2040, Well Thailand population was decreaed a little in 2020 where the perdiction says that it will surged in 2030 and again in 2040 where it goes to 50%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the four countries and make a relevant attempt to summarise the overall rise, especially Malaysia’s high urban share and Indonesia’s growth. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: Malaysia is described as reaching 80% in both 2030 and 2040, whereas the graph shows about 81% and 84%. The account of Thailand is also contradictory: it says the figure will be around 50% in 2030 and 60% in 2040, then concludes it reaches 50% in 2040. Several important features are missed, including Malaysia’s sustained lead after 2000 and the Philippines’ rise, dip and later recovery. Select the clearest trends and report them accurately, with a concise overview and relevant comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, gives an overall statement, and then uses “However” and “Furthermore” to add details. Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because the paragraphs do not clearly separate the overview from the main comparisons, and the final paragraph repeats and conflicts with earlier information about Thailand. Some linking phrases, such as “where” and “as according to predictions,” do not clearly show how the ideas relate. Group the data into a logical sequence—for example, overall trends followed by country comparisons—and use clear references and transitions. This would make the account easier to follow without relying on repeated connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “trend,” “predictions,” and “fluctuation,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For example, “the highest trend increased” does not naturally describe Malaysia’s figures, and “the least perecentage shows” is awkward. There are also repeated spelling errors in words such as “population,” “predictions,” and country names. Aim for precise trend language such as “rose,” “remained the highest,” “declined slightly,” and “is projected to reach,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences and use time references to distinguish past data from forecasts, but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur in phrases such as “Malaysia were at 70%” and “it will be goes to 80%.” Sentence construction is also faulty in “Thailand population was decreaed a little in 2020 where the perdiction says,” making the intended relationship hard to follow. Several clauses are joined with commas or “where” without a clear grammatical connection. Use straightforward past-tense sentences for recorded figures and “is projected to” for forecasts, checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries. More accurate simple structures would improve clarity before you attempt longer ones.
