Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the four countries and give a broad overview, noting Malaysia’s leading position by 2040 and Thailand’s comparatively low figure. However, the overview is unclear in places, and the report only partially selects and compares the main features. Some figures are inaccurate: in 1970, the Philippines was about 32%, Malaysia 30%, and Indonesia 14%, rather than the Philippines and Malaysia sharing the lead and Indonesia being at 10%. The claim that Thailand and the Philippines both fluctuated is only partly supported: Thailand rose gradually, while the Philippines rose, fell, then recovered. You also mention the 2010 similarity between Indonesia and the Philippines, but omit the major contrast that Malaysia rose steadily to over 80% while Indonesia grew rapidly from the lowest starting point. Select these key trends and report them more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the countries, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In addition” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is difficult to follow because comparisons shift abruptly and some sentences are unclear, particularly “the proportion of population of Thailand 20% in 1970” and the final sentence about two countries having the same ratio. Linking expressions are sometimes used without making the relationship between ideas clear. Organise the body by meaningful comparisons—for example, Malaysia and Indonesia’s contrasting growth, followed by the Philippines and Thailand—and use clear references and transitions to connect each point.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “fluctuated,” and “significantly,” and use some relevant terms to describe change. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand, such as “population of the Asian nations living in four different types of cities” and “had population of proprostion same lead.” There are also frequent spelling errors, including “Phillippines,” “Indinesia,” “Malasia,” and “poppulation,” which reduce clarity. Use precise chart language and avoid repeating “population” when “urban share” or “figure” is more suitable. Check spelling carefully and choose natural combinations such as “the proportion living in cities” and “rose to.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple statements and some longer structures, including a sentence beginning “while” and an overview introduced by “Overall.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and attempts to combine ideas often produce incomplete or confusing sentences. For example, “The graph illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the following least percentage had Thailand” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Articles and sentence patterns are also problematic in “According to graph” and “the proportion of population of Thailand 20% in 1970.” These errors sometimes make the intended comparisons hard to follow. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then add subordinate clauses; check agreement, articles, and that every sentence has a clear subject and verb.
