Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given line graph illustrates about proportion of four countries Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia population residing in cities from 1970 till 2020, while with prediction from year 2030 to 2040.

Overall, it can be seen clearly that Malaysia and Indonesia arose over the way to peak, while Thailand and Philippines fluctuated over the whole period.

In 1970, Malysia and Philippines started from the same proportion of 30% however, with decays Malysia steeply rose to maximum of 75% in 2020 ,while Philippines fluctuated over the whole way around 50% population till 2020. In addition, other two countries Thailand and Indonesia took start with minor difference of 5% however, Indonesia surged considerably over the whole initiating from 11% to the maximum of 50% population growth in 2020. Thailand also fluctuated over the whole period facing peak approximetely to just 30% till 2020.

Future prediction of 2030 and 2040 has shows distinct results where Malysia and Indonesia will hopefully surged largely to 80% and 60% respectively while, Thailand and Philippines will remain fluctuated over the period growing to just 51% and 49% population rate respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You provide a clear overview by distinguishing Malaysia and Indonesia’s overall rises from the less steady patterns for the Philippines and Thailand, and you cover both the historical period and forecasts. Several key comparisons are relevant: Malaysia and the Philippines begin at about 30%, while Indonesia rises strongly by 2020. However, some figures and descriptions are inaccurate or imprecise. Malaysia is about 76% in 2020, not 75% (a small difference), but Indonesia is about 52%, rather than 50%; the Philippines is around 45.5%, not “around 50%.” Thailand’s trend is mostly gradual growth, not fluctuation. The forecast figures are also mixed: by 2040, Thailand is near 50% and the Philippines about 56%, rather than 51% and 49%. More precise comparisons would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on the observed years and a final paragraph on predictions. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and phrases such as “In addition” and “Future prediction” help signal shifts. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “while with prediction” and “where Malaysia and Indonesia.” The long middle paragraph combines several countries and comparisons, making the information harder to follow. Grouping the two strongest upward trends together, then contrasting them with the other countries, would create clearer progression. Use linking words only where the relationship is precise, and make references such as “other two countries” explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary suited to describing trends, including “fluctuated,” “surged,” “proportion” and “prediction.” This shows some willingness to use less common terms, but several choices or forms are inaccurate and sometimes make the meaning less precise. “Arose over the way to peak” is not a natural description of a rising trend, and “with decays” does not clearly express the change in Malaysia. “Population growth” is also misleading here because the graph shows the share living in cities, not population growth. Spelling errors such as “Malysia” and “approximetely” further affect accuracy. Prefer standard, precise trend language and check spelling and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrasts with “while” and clauses introduced by “where.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “Future prediction … has shows” combines incompatible verb forms, while “Malaysia and Indonesia will hopefully surged” uses the wrong form after “will.” In “Thailand and Philippines,” the article is missing, and the opening phrase “illustrates about proportion” has an incomplete grammatical pattern. Punctuation around commas and spaces is also inconsistent. Build accuracy first with shorter comparisons, then add subordinate clauses; check that each verb agrees with its subject and follows the correct auxiliary.
