Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph provide precentage of population in cities for major cities of Asia, namely as Phillippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia from 1970 to 2020, whereas also predict the population over 2030 and 2040.
Overall, the four famous asian counteries city population shows inceasing tread with some up and down. Although the Phillippines has sharply rise in past and future, while in the Thailland population growth showed lowest growth.
The Malaysia and Indonesia show uniform increasing growth between 1970 to 2020 of about 74% and 53% respectively, while prediction over 2030 and 2040 was 83% and 63%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a broad overview that urbanisation generally rises, with Thailand showing the smallest increase. However, the report addresses the task only partially: it ends mid-sentence (“did not have uniform incresin”) and omits a complete account of the Philippines and Thailand, as well as meaningful comparisons across the full period. Some figures are also inaccurate: Malaysia is about 76% in 2020, not 74%, and Indonesia is about 52%, rather than 53%; the forecast figures are close. The claim that the Philippines “has sharply rise” is not supported across the whole period, since its share falls after 1990 before rising again. The response is 109 words, below the required 150. Add a complete summary with key turning points and accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a paragraph about Malaysia and Indonesia. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “As compared to” help signal the intended relationships. However, the progression is incomplete because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence, and the response does not develop a clear sequence for comparing all four countries. The overview’s “some up and down” is vague, while the later comparison does not connect the historical trends to the forecasts clearly. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and the main comparisons, and complete each point before moving on. Clear references to dates and countries would make the relationships easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “population,” “prediction,” “uniform increasing growth,” and “growth,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or repetitive choices make the description less clear and less appropriate for an academic report. Phrases such as “famous asian counteries” and “major cities of Asia” do not accurately describe the chart, which concerns national populations living in cities, not city populations or famous countries. Spelling errors such as “precentage,” “Phillippines,” and “incresin” are noticeable. Aim for precise terms such as “urban population” and “proportion,” and use varied verbs to describe rises, falls, and forecasts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms, for example the sentence beginning “Although the Phillippines…,” and use time expressions to frame the data. However, the range remains limited, and errors are frequent enough to make several sentences awkward or difficult to interpret. In “The line graph provide,” the subject and verb do not agree; “from 1970 to 2020, whereas also predict” has an incomplete grammatical construction. The overview sentence beginning “Although” is not properly joined to a main clause, and “The Malaysia and Indonesia show” uses an unnecessary article. The final sentence is unfinished, so its intended structure cannot be understood. Practise complete clauses, consistent past and future forms, and accurate subject–verb agreement before adding more complex comparisons.
