Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the topic and mention several relevant trends, including Malaysia’s rise and the projected figures for Thailand and Indonesia. However, the response gives only a limited account of the graph and does not clearly summarise its main comparisons. For example, Malaysia is described as reaching “nearly 80%” in 2030–2040, but the figures are about 81% and 83.5%; Indonesia is projected to exceed 60%, while Thailand reaches about 50%. The claim that Thailand and Indonesia were “under stressed” from 1990 to 2020 is unclear, and the Philippines’ pattern is not explained with figures. There is also no clear, accurate overview of the countries’ relative positions. The response is 146 words, below the required 150.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has some paragraphing and attempts to group the countries: the final paragraph discusses Thailand and Indonesia, while the preceding one focuses on the Philippines and Malaysia. This gives the reader a basic sense of how the information is divided. However, progression is difficult to follow because the opening repeats the task description and then refers inconsistently to a “bar chart” and a “line chart.” Connections between ideas are often unclear, as in “same as with philippines,” and the response does not move systematically from an overview to well-organised details. Use a concise introduction, a separate overview, and body paragraphs that compare the countries in a clear order, with accurate linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant graph vocabulary, including “percentage,” “prediction,” “increased,” and “reached,” so the general subject is usually recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. For instance, “under stressed” does not communicate a clear trend, and “population are increased” is not a natural way to describe the urban share. “At the galance” appears to be an inaccurate attempt at “at a glance.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “similary imcreased” also reduce clarity. Aim to use precise trend language, such as “rose steadily,” “fluctuated,” or “was projected to reach,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on short, simple statements and shows limited control of sentence structure. Errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “The line graph illustrate,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “Malaysia population are increased,” which has problems with both the possessive form and verb construction. The opening sentence also lacks clear punctuation and has an incomplete structure, while phrases such as “the prediction of 2030 to 2040 are given” use an awkward tense and construction. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled comparisons using forms such as “while” and “whereas.” Check subject–verb agreement, articles, possessives, and sentence boundaries.
