Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report some relevant figures, including the Philippines’ rise from about 32% in 1970 to around 49% in 1990, its subsequent fall, and Malaysia’s increase to 60% by 2000. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it ends mid-sentence (“Furthermore, it increase”) and does not describe Thailand or Indonesia, or give a complete overview of the main patterns. The overview is also unclear and inaccurate: “malaysia have grown significantlya and different rate in four Asian resulting remarkably similar increaced” does not clearly summarise the countries’ contrasting trends. The response is also 32 words below the required minimum. To improve, complete the report, compare all four series, and state the key overall features accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Meanwhile” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is limited because the overview is difficult to understand, and the final paragraph stops abruptly after “Furthermore, it increase,” leaving the comparison unfinished. The discussion also moves between the Philippines and Malaysia without a clear plan for covering the remaining countries. Use a complete overview, then group the figures logically—for example, describe Malaysia and Indonesia’s stronger growth before comparing the Philippines and Thailand. Ensure each paragraph develops a complete point and use linking words only where the relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “population,” “rose,” “falling,” and “growth,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to interpret, such as “significantlya,” “increaced,” “cpmpared,” “appoximately,” and “steadu.” Some phrasing is also unnatural, including “in term of percentage” and “living in city.” Use accurate, conventional expressions such as “the proportion of the population living in urban areas” and “increased steadily.” Check spelling carefully and choose precise verbs for trends, such as “declined,” “recovered,” or “continued to rise.” This would make the limited range more effective and reduce the effort required to understand the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few different sentence forms, including a complex comparison beginning “Moreover” and a sequence describing the Philippines’ rise, fall, and later increase. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the meaning unclear. For example, “Malaysia have grown” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “between 1970 to 2020” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. The overview sentence beginning “it is clear that” is not grammatically complete in meaning, and “is reach 55%” has an incorrect verb form. The final phrase, “Furthermore, it increase,” is also unfinished. Practise accurate past-tense reporting for historical data and use “is projected to reach” for forecasts. Build complete sentences and check agreement, verb forms, and prepositions.
