Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the topic and include an overview, noting that all four countries rise overall. However, the overview is unclear: “Thailand and Malaysia is also grow but with significant number” does not explain the main contrasts. Several figures and trends are inaccurate or incomplete. Indonesia is reported as 12% in 1970 and 60% in 2040, rather than approximately 14% and 64%; Thailand is said to reach 40% in 2040, rather than about 50%. The account of Malaysia and the Philippines after 2010 is especially confusing: Malaysia continues rising to around 84%, while the Philippines recovers after a decline and reaches about 56%. The response also falls three words short of the required minimum. Include a clearer overview and accurately compare the countries’ endpoints and changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to two groups of country details. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In same way” and “Morever” attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because comparisons are compressed or unclear. For example, “The average incraese in both contry is about 48% and 30%” does not clearly identify what the figures refer to, and “After 2010, their population is grow into 80% and Malaysia remain the same” is confusing and contradictory. The isolated “g” also interrupts the flow. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details by meaningful trends, with clear references to each country and year.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “line graph,” “predictions,” “gradually,” “decline,” and “growth rate.” These choices show an attempt to describe trends rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited, and frequent spelling and word-choice problems make parts of the report difficult to understand: “urbon,” “Poplation,” “incraese,” and “incease” are examples. Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “the population … residing in urban” and “their population is grow into 80%.” Aim for accurate trend language and collocations, such as “the proportion living in cities rose to” or “remained stable.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms for percentages will improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more connected sentences, including “Although…” and “From 1970 to 1990…,” but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “This line graph illustrate” and “Thailand and Malaysia is also grow.” Verb forms are often incorrect, as in “gradually rise,” “their population is grow,” and “Malaysia remain.” Articles and sentence construction also need attention: “In same way” should be formed with an article, while “in the beganing” does not create a clear grammatical phrase. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, including the lower-case sentence beginning “and the decline.” Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and use future forms for predictions, checking agreement and sentence boundaries.
