Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject and reports a few relevant figures, including Indonesia’s starting point and Thailand reaching about 30% in 1990. However, it covers the task only partially: Malaysia’s strong rise to the highest projected figure and the Philippines’ fluctuating pattern are not described, and there is no clear overview of the main comparisons. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: Thailand does not remain constant through 2020, rising gradually to about 33.5%, and its projected increase from 2020 to 2040 is about 16 percentage points, not more than 20. The response is also 56 words below the required minimum. To improve, include a concise overview and compare all four countries using accurate key stages and endpoints.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The information is presented in a broadly understandable order, moving from the 1970 figures to later trends and projections. Basic linking, such as “While” and “then,” helps connect some points. However, the response is a single paragraph with no clear overview or progression across the four series, and the discussion stops before covering Malaysia and the Philippines’ later trends. Some links are incomplete: “While Philippines and Malaysia accounted nearly 30%...” is left without a main clause, while “Prediction for Thailand population says that...” does not connect smoothly to the preceding information. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and grouped detail paragraphs, using clear comparisons to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “increased gradually,” “reached,” and “projection,” so the basic topic is communicated. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are awkward, such as “accounted nearly 30% each population,” “stay consist,” and “increased more 20%.” Spelling errors in “approximetely” and “respecevely,” along with the lowercase “asian,” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the general subject, but they make the report less precise and natural. Practise standard expressions for describing proportions, trends, and forecast changes, and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “Indonesia increased gradually from 1980 to 2020 and will predicted to reach 60% in 2040.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. The opening phrase “While Philippines and Malaysia accounted...” is a dependent clause without a complete main clause. There are also problems with articles and sentence structure in “in same year,” and the future passive construction “will predicted” is incorrect. “It stay consist” also shows errors in tense and verb form. Use complete sentences, maintain consistent past tense for historical data, and form predictions with structures such as “is predicted to reach.”
